Ski holidays
Ski holidays aren´t advisable just for Christmas of New Year´s Eve, but in every month in winter…and at the beginning of spring, as many ski- and chair-lifts are open till mid-April! A very popular region for ski holidays in Italy is South Tyrol, occupied by the Dolomites in its Eastern part. Many guests consider them "the most beautiful mountains of the world"... the UNESCO proclaimed them "World Heritage Site" in June 2009! One of the most popular ski holidays symbols in South Tyrol is Val Gardena, where it´s located the famous ski resort of Ortisei, famous for its wonderful ski runs on the Seceda and on the nearby Alpe di Siusi (German: Seiser Alm, Ladin Mont Seuc), connected to the city center thanks to a cable-lift.
Valtelline
Valtelline (Italian: Valtellina, German Veltlin) is a ski resort located in Lombardy, bordering with South Tyrol directly; the Stelvio Pass (Italian: Passo Stelvio, German: Stilfserjoch) connects the two regions. This mountain pass is located in the Stelvio National Park; the two regions had intense commercial contacts in the past already, as proven in Glorenza (German: Glurns), a small city in Val Venosta. During your ski holidays in Valtelline you can try difficult ski runs, especially around Bormio (German: Worms) and Livigno, the ideal mountain resorts if you want to blend ski holidays with shopping; it´s also famous for its many wellness hotels. Bormio is also a spa resort, as here you can experiment its spa springs beneficial effects; its thermal waters have a sulphate- alkaline-radioactive- earthy base, curing many troubles.
