Nordic ski
South Tyrol is the ideal place to practice Nordic ski, as it´s very well equipped for this sport. An example is the "Dolomiti Nordic Ski" ski zone, located among South Tyrol, Austria and Veneto, where you can ski in both ways, "skating" or according to the classic method. Another Nordic ski paradis is Val Ridanna (German: Ridnauntal), located in the immediate surroundings of Vipiteno; Valle Isarco offers many well-prepared Nordic ski fields around Luson (German: Lüsen). In South Tyrol Nordic ski and gastronomy walk hand in hand, as in Val Casies (German: Gseierstal) the famous "Canederli Marathon" takes place at the end of January every year. From 11am till 4pm, the South Tyrolean restaurateurs will cook many kinds of "canederli" and they´ll serve them in the mountain refuges!
The advantages of Nordic ski
Nordic ski is a complete sport which employs 90% of muscles, stimulating the immune system and blood oxygenation. Nordic ski doesn´t fatigue your articulations, as this is a "soft" sport which can be practiced by everyone, from children to grandparents, as it´s a very valid alternative to footing. The best trained guests can train with the athlete Peter Schickenrieder around Vipiteno; Val Ridanna is a true Nordic ski paradise! The ski races fans can take part into the international "Dobbiaco- Cortina" ski race, a classic Nordic Ski race, which takes place in Alta Pusteria between the end of January till the beginning of February. Another Nordic ski event not to be missed are the biathlon races in Valle Anterselva (German: Antholzertal)!
